CAMPs Initiative

A Coalition Advocating for Access to Skin Substitute Technologies in Wound Care

The CAMPs Initiative is a nonprofit coalition formed to advocate on behalf of skin substitute manufacturers and the patients they serve. Based in Fort Worth, Texas, the Initiative brings together industry voices to address policy and regulatory challenges affecting Cellular, Acellular, and Matrix-Like Products (CAMPs) used in chronic wound treatment.

These innovative products play an important role in helping doctors reduce the risk of serious complications, including amputations, ICU admissions, and death. The Initiative exists to ensure that their role in patient care is clearly understood and fairly represented in national healthcare policy.

Policy and Access Challenges

Despite the proven benefits of skin substitutes, policymakers in Washington, DC have proposed changes that will overhaul the way that these critical products are covered and reimbursed under the Medicare system, threatening patient access and discouraging manufacturers from investing in new, innovative products. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently issued a rule imposing an arbitrary reimbursement cap on most skin substitutes and reclassifying those products as medical supplies. This new policy marks a radical departure from years of established federal policy and risks cutting off patients and providers from access to these life-saving products.

Purpose and Mission

Purpose

and Focus

The CAMPs Initiative was created to respond to these challenges. The Initiative will:

  • raise public awareness about the importance of skin substitutes,

  • educate policymakers on their role in wound care,

  • advocate for fair and transparent national policies, and

  • support and participate in litigation to defend the interests of innovative

    skin-substitute manufacturers

The CAMPs Initiative unites industry voices to safeguard the future of regenerative medicine, promote accountability in healthcare policy, and foster an environment where life-changing skin substitute technologies can thrive for the well-being of patients.

“Our goal is simple. We want to make sure that policymakers understand the important benefit that skin substitutes provide for patients and for healthcare providers. The CAMPs Initiative will fight to ensure continued access to these important, life-changing products."
